4×2′ Cornhole Boards or 3×2′?

If you’re from Ohio, you’ve probably never thought about this question.  The standard around those parts is pretty much 4×2′ boards.  But in other parts of the country, the 3×2′ is more common.  Particularly anywhere near Chicago and in a lot of parts in Michigan.

The 3×2′ boards do have some advantages.  For one, they are far more portable.  Just that extra foot is the difference between being able to store the set in your trunk versus being forced to take up valuable space in your back seat.  But the boards are harder to play on which can be seen as an advantage or disadvantage.

For our company, 90% of the boards we sell are the 4×2′, probably because we refer to them as regulation.  But either way, it doesn’t really matter what boards you play on as long as you’re having a good time doing it.

And to close the post I thought I’d include another “How I discovered The Game” entry that we received….here you go!

I discovered Cornhole during college at West Virginia University. It is a football game day staple at the tailgates. I spent most of my time watching, but actually started to love the game. It is just a ton of fun to watch and play. I have had some great times playing the game!

I first played corn hole in my highschool library during lunch. At first it was just something avoid the terriable food they served in the lunchroom, but as i got better i began to enjoy the game and now plan to make my own boards.

How I Discovered The Cornhole Game-Part 2

Saw the cornhole game at two different Halloween parties I attended this year.  Everyone was having a really good time playing the game.  It was being enjoyed by the real young children right on up to the older adults even the ones in their 70’s.  Was great exercise and fun to play.

Had played a similar game a couple years back, but the board wasn’t as large as the ones I played on at the Halloween parties.  I really like the larger sizes.  I am having 5 sets of boards built and I am ordering bags from SC Cornhole games for the boards being built.  I am keeping a set for my house and giving the others to family members as gifts.  Looking forward to playing the game with my family.

I first saw the game being played at what was originally the Monastery but is now the Salty Senorita in Peoria, AZ.  It’s basically a bar (ok they have some fish tacos & other grub) with a large outdoor patio, but unique in that there are also some sand volleyball courts.  Either it was new or I just noticed it the last time I went (Feb 2009), but I was surprised to see a group of people off to the side tossing bean bags at a wooden board.  I asked my husband what they were doing and he said “bean bag toss I guess”.  It was new to both of us.  Not longer after that I found out from my sister & her husband (a big tailgater – go Cards!) that it was aka cornhole.  Ha!  Aptly named.  Anyway, the bro-in-law now wants a set of his own for Christmas.  So I’m doing my research & learning more about the game than I ever thought I would – for example, thanks to this site, I now know about “regulation” vs. “tail-gate” dimensions.  Meanwhile, I still haven’t played yet…can’t wait!  :>

Discovering The Cornhole Game

Here are a few entries that people wrote in describing how they discovered the game of cornhole.  I think it’s interesting to see how people have come across the game…

I saw the cornhole game at two different Halloween parties.  Everyone was enjoying the game.  Had played a similar game a couple years back but the platform for the game wasn’t as large.  Really enjoyed the game and so did my grandchildren.

I discovered Cornhole after moving to Ohio for my first year of college. The first weekend at school I saw every other house on campus hanging out outside and playing this bean bag game.  I had never seen anything like it before! I quickly learned how fun and addictive Cornhole is and cannot imagine a cook-out without it. :)

We received our Cornhole game as a gift for our cabin.  Have had loads of fun playing it.  This summer we were @ a friend’s cabin who had the scoreboard tower.  Now would like to purchase one of our own as it adds to the fun of the game.

I actually was a chuch picnic and they had a turnament. Then when on a camping trip some brought the game on the trip. Now my family is hooked. Great family game.

I learned about this game from my boyfriend! It is the best game to play when you’re just hangin out!

My boyfriend and I went a friends BBQ on Memorial Day a couple years ago where his friend pulled out his home made cornhole set.  It looked kinda strange but ended up being a blast!! This was our first introduction to the game but we have since converted many friends and family members to cornholians!

I’d never played until I started hanging out with my boyfriend and his buddies.  They’re addicted!  He doesn’t have his own board though, so this will make a perfect gift.

Cornhole Blog

This is the first post at this blog.  This is meant to be a central spot to post information related to the game of cornhole.  I started playing in about 2001 and in 2005 started a company called SC Cornhole that has grown by leaps and bounds.  I meant to start this awhile back, but never got around to it.

I’m going to start a few different series.  One big one is going to be “How’d You Discover The Game”.  One of the thing that I’ve noticed is how viral the nature of the game is and I think the posts will reflect that.

Hope you enjoy!
